AB Trucking is a small family owned Drayage Company based locally in Oakland, operating six trucks that serve the Port of Oakland and the northern California region.
AB Trucking is an equal opportunity employer, we continue to give formerly incarcerated individuals the chance of a new start by employing them as company drivers; all our drivers are paid hourly. Less than 10% of the 6000 trucks serving the Port of Oakland are operated by company drivers.
AB trucking is a staunch supporter of the ‘Clean Safe Ports’ movement, but advocates for the rights of Independent Truckers/Small Business to have a choice working at the Port. The teamsters organizers took note of AB Trucking’s Free Choice advocacy and filed suit against the company, claiming our employee drivers were not afforded proper meal and rest breaks.
The suit was an attack on our company for not supporting the organizers campaign to take the rights of Independent Truckers from working at the Port.
Former employee (Lavon Godfrey) was recruited by the teamster organizer to start this lawsuit and turn it to a class action. The suit is an attack on our company for not supporting the teamsters organizers attempt to take away the rights of ‘Independent’ truck drivers and their ability to work in the port drayage business.

Contrary to teamsters propaganda and tactics surrounding this lawsuit, which unfairly demonize our company, we have remained committed to improving work conditions for our drivers and the driver community as a whole since the creation of AB Trucking as a minority owned and operated company in 1996.
This lawsuit is not about meal and rest breaks, it is a front to freedom of speech and a direct attack on the right of local small businesses to operate at the Port.
